The Certification on Audit of Digital Systems (CADS) is a structured, multi-domain, multi-level professional certification programme developed by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) in partnership with IIT Madras. It builds specialised competencies needed to audit complex digital systems, AI-driven governance platforms, and emerging compliance regimes.

* No course fee for public auditors and officers under the Office of the CAG. A course fee of ₹2,000 per domain applies to all other learners.
† Credit value is NCrF-recommended; participating universities/institutions may award additional credits at their discretion.
CADS is open to officers and staff of the CAG of India, as well as general learners with an interest in the audit domain
Each of the 6 domains is a standalone 45-hour course with its own certificate on completion.
Certification in Public Audit domain is mandatory for registering for other domains
Government today runs on data, digital systems, and increasingly, artificial intelligence – and public audit must keep pace. AI governance and cybersecurity are no longer distant concerns – they define today’s risk landscape. Auditing an AI driven welfare platform or a national data exchange demands skills no traditional audit training was built to provide. CADS intends to close that gap. It offers anyone – from government and internal auditors to students and professionals, the specialised capability to hold modern digital government to account, and to help shape its digital transition.

Public Audit is mandatory and must be completed first: This requirement applies to all learners, including public auditors under the CAG as well as general learners and auditors from other organisations. Registration for the other five domains will be enabled only on successful completion of the Public Audit domain, unless an exemption has been granted under the exemption clause described below.
Exemption clause (public auditors under the CAG only) Officers of the CAG may seek an exemption from the Public Audit domain prerequisite by submitting the exemption form available on the page of the domain course they wish to enrol in. The exemption is not sought through the Public Audit domain form. Requests are vetted and granted by the CAG nodal officer. This clause does not apply to general learners or to auditors from other organisations.
A credit-eligible, verifiable certificate is issued on completion of each domain by SWAYAM Plus and IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation.
Learners become eligible for the Proficient level in a domain once they have completed the Foundation level in that domain as well as in the mandatory Public Audit domain - a minimum of two Foundation domains in total.
Certificates are valid 5 years - 3 years for AI and Cybersecurity. The Proficient level must be completed within the validity period.
20% · Case studies
Case studies form part of the modules within each domain. Submissions are made through the Learning Management System, in PDF or another format specified by the instructor, and are evaluated against the answer key provided by the Subject Matter Experts, with marks updated within the same system.
80% · Final proctored assessment
The final assessment is a Computer-Based Test (CBT) comprising MCQ-based questions and short answers, conducted at designated examination centres across India.
